Webster calls a hero a ‘central positive figure in an event, period, or movement’, or ‘a person admired for their achievements and noble qualities’.  I suppose it is a given that a “SUPERhero” would have to be one that exemplifies those qualities, but even more so (as if someone were quantifying this stuff)?

Given all the attention bestowed on the ‘Avengers’ movie, and its recent success at the box office, I started thinking about those I know around me that may be able to be considered ‘Superheroes’.  One thing common to heroes (it seems0), is that once called as such, they completely deny the mantra.  People don’t seem to want others to bestow them with that kind of honor.  Maybe this is because A.) they don’t believe they are worthy, or B.) they don’t want to have to live up to it, or C.) they just want to be or seem humble.

Well, for this blog, I thought I’d share a bit of what I think is worthy of being called out as ‘heroism’, at least around the BlueBolt office, because there is a lot of good that is done, and often not noticed or fully recognized.  So, I thought I’d share a few of the SuperHero roles  around our office, and maybe other digital / interactive agencies...being careful not to call out anyone specific:

 

Stealth TESTER

This is a job that gets too little attention, because not only is it really hard to do, but, because it is totally unsung.  A common criticism of developers is that they aren’t always good at testing (or critiquing) their own work.  So, we need help from behind the scenes...here’s to those folks that learn fast, and work hard to understand how to break things.  Tough work, for sure.

 

 

 

 

 

First RESPONDERS

Believe me, when a website development client needs help, a lot of times they NEED HELP (like RIGHT NOW).  Yes, we do get calls from customers (past and present) that say, ‘hey, when you get a chance, can you help with yadayahdah...’, but, that isn’t always the case.  Most of the time there is something wrong, and they need immediate assistance.  So, we can’t give enough credit to those team members who take calls after hours, on the fly, and without warning.  Your efforts are appreciated and never forgotten.

 

 

TIME Trackers

BlueBolt asks all employees to track their time, and honestly almost all of them have become rock stars in this regard.  It isn’t easy to keep oneself accountable for an entire day, every day. So hats off for just doing this important part of the daily grind.

 

 

 

Weekend WARRIORS

Keeping up with technology is EXTREMELY difficult these days.  Far from an 8-hour-a-day job, our staff works vehemently to stay up to this challenge and are eager to learn as much as they can, even on their “own time” out of intellectual curiosity.  These include, but aren’t limited to learning about new trends and tools available in Content Management solutions, marketing automation, mobile development, cloud/hosting technologies, social media offerings and much more.  We all witness huge advances in these areas on a regular basis,  even daily.

 

 

OWNERSHIP Champion

BlueBolt clients not only deserve unbridled success, but they expect it from us.  In order to accomplish this, coordination amongst team members is key.  So everyone is saddled at times to take ownership for the work assigned and act like task quarterbacks. Those that do this in stride really are unsung heroes, as they prove their commitment to BlueBolt, our clients, and themselves.

 

 

 

As said, unfortunately, I have to admit that, like Spiderman or Batman, these BlueBolt Superheroes may not get all the recognition deserved for their inhuman efforts.  Thus, for everyone’s benefit, the learning process not only begs demanding day-job duties, but for those that go above and beyond as well.

What can we say, that’s life in digital marketing.
