Streamlining Multi-Storefronts: How BlueBolt helped move Mobile Fidelity from Shopify to their BigCommerce suite

Renowned for its commitment to uncompromising quality and preserving the artist’s original intent, Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab [subsidiary of Music Direct] makes the world’s best-sounding vinyl LPs and Super Audio CDs (SACD). Fiercely independent since 1977, the record label pioneered the concept of audiophile reissues. It has released the definitive versions of many of the greatest albums in history — a practice that continues amid a growing catalog that encompasses more than 600 releases.

In 2024, Mofi was looking for a more cost-effective and reliable solution for their online storefront on Shopify. Having successfully partnered with BlueBolt in 2022 to launch MusicDirect.com on BigCommerce—complete with real-time ERP integration—they were impressed with the results. Seeing the benefits firsthand, they turned to BlueBolt once again to migrate Mofi.com to BigCommerce. This move not only reduced fees and hosting costs but also allowed them to maximize their existing ERP integration. Plus, consolidating both storefronts on a single platform streamlined operations, making it easier for their customer support team to manage both brands efficiently.

MoFi Project Highlights

Extend ERP Integration

Music Direct sought to extend their existing ERP integration for Mofi.com. BlueBolt enhanced the platform to support multiple BigCommerce storefronts, seamlessly integrating both Mofi.com and MusicDirect.com.

Custom BigCommerce Checkout

Mofi.com required a custom checkout to suppress certain payment methods for out-of-stock items and display real-time stock statuses (in stock, preorder, backorder, awaiting repress). BlueBolt delivered a tailored solution.

Custom Storefront Features

Customer Order History Lookup: Pulled past orders from Mofi’s ERP, allowing customers to access orders from previous platforms and phone orders. Product Availability Display: Enhanced BigCommerce’s native capabilities to show stock statuses using ERP data.

Technical Guidance

Mofi aimed to manage their storefront theme in-house, reducing reliance on third parties. BlueBolt provided technical guidance. By project completion, the Mofi team confidently handled updates and deployments independently.

When Mofi.com moved from Shopify to BigCommerce, BlueBolt leveraged the existing ERP integration it had built for MusicDirect.com to support the new platform. This extension ensured seamless syncing of product, order, and customer data across both Mofi.com and MusicDirect.com storefronts, creating a unified back-end experience while accommodating the distinct needs of each site. BlueBolt developed a custom checkout process. This included suppressing certain payment methods when out-of-stock items were added to the cart and ensuring customers could view real-time stock availability during checkout. This was particularly important for Mofi, which sells a variety of products with different availability statuses. BlueBolt’s solution went beyond BigCommerce’s native features to integrate ERP flags into the storefront, providing customers with clear visibility into product availability.

In addition to checkout customization, BlueBolt built storefront features tailored to Mofi.com’s needs. The order history lookup allowed customers to access past orders made through previous platforms, such as Shopify, and via phone, by pulling this data directly from the ERP. The advanced product availability display was also implemented to show detailed stock statuses for each product, enhancing customer experience and reducing confusion around product availability. BlueBolt also worked closely with the Mofi development team, providing technical guidance throughout the project. This included training Mofi developers on best practices for theme development and deployment using GitHub for source control and Stencil for theme customization. By the end of the project, Mofi's team had gained the necessary skills to manage and update the storefront theme independently, with BlueBolt’s support ensuring a smooth transition to full ownership of future theme updates and deployments.
